About this event

1 hour 45 minutes

This event was initially going to run in January but had to be postponed. We're delighted to announce a new date for Rosalind Eyben's curious tale!

On a spring afternoon in 1908 in a busy West End tea-shop, forty waitresses put down their trays. Their strike leader, the charismatic ‘Ken’ Ware and their suffragette adviser, Millicent Matters, make front page news. The public cannot have enough of them. Then things start going wrong ...

We are delighted to announce the return of Dr Rosalind Eyben to the Curious Histories lecture programme at St. John's church, by the floral clock in Hove. Her talk is the fruit of several years research into the often sidelined area of labour relations and waiting staff in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.

All our events at St John's are free to attend, with a retiring collection for charity. Ample refreshment will be provided at our bar, serving both alcoholic and soft drinks, which takes cash and cards. Doors and bar open at 7.15pm and the talk begins at 7.30pm.
